Woman Charged After Teen's Body Found In South Philly Basement

A Philadelphia woman is facing charges, including abuse of corpse and more, after Erin Schweikert's body was found in a bin in a basement.

PHILADELPHIA — A Philadelphia woman is facing numerous charges, including abuse of corpse, after the body of a missing 18-year-old woman was found in a Philadelphia basement last week.

According to court documents, Maddison Leidy, 25, of Philadelphia, has been charged with abuse of corpse, tampering with evidence, giving false statement to police, obstruction, and more, court record show.

The charges came after police found the body of Erin Schweikert, 18, in a bin in the basement of Leidy's residence on the 2100 block of Porter Street in South Philadelphia Friday.

According to NBC10, police were serving a warrant for robbery at a home on Porter Street last week and found Schweikert's body. Five people were taken into custody.

Schweikert who was reported missing back in October after she was last seen on Friday, Sept. 27 on the 2300 block of South Lee Street.

Police said her death appeared to be accidental.

Leidy was held in custody after failing to post 10 percent of $500,000 bail.

She has a preliminary hearing set for Feb. 5.
