Woman Dies After Jumping From Car To Avoid Gunfire: Philly Police

Abbra Johnson was run over by a vehicle she was a passenger in after she tried to get out as two men fired shots at it, police said.

PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia Police said a woman died after jumping from a vehicle while trying to escape gunfire then being hit by a vehicle in West Philadelphia Sunday.

The incident occurred at 6:37 a.m. on the 4900 block of Aspen Street, police said.

Abbra Johnson, 36, died Sunday, police said.

According to police, two men approached a white Infiniti in which Johnson was a passenger, and at least one began firing at the vehicle on that date and time.

Police said the Infiniti reversed back up Aspen Street, but Johnson tried to get out of the vehicle.

Johnson was then run over by the Infiniti and later died from her injuries, police said.

The Infiniti's driver fled east on Aspen then north on 49th street, leaving Johnson at the scene.

Police said the two men who approached the vehicle were both wearing black and fled west on Aspen Street.

The Infiniti is in police custody and authorities are planning to search it, police said.
