Pedestrian Killed While Crossing I-95 In Philly Friday: State Police

A woman was fatally struck by a vehicle while she ran across Interstate 95 South near the Philadelphia International Airport Friday.

PHILADELPHIA — A woman was killed on Interstate 95 near the Philadelphia International Airport Friday afternoon, and Pennsylvania State Police said she was struck while trying to run across the highway.

Troopers were called to the mile marker 12.3 on Interstate 95 south at about 3:06 p.m. Friday for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

There, they found a woman face down in the middle lane of the highway.

She suffered serious injuries to her head, neck, torso, outer extremities, and showed no signs of life, police said.

Authorities determined she tried to run across the highway from the right side to the left side when she was struck by a black Chevrolet van in the far-left lane.

She was thrown into the middle lane, where a white Chevrolet Express van drove directly over her but did not appear to strike her, police said.

Both drivers stayed on scene to provide eyewitness statements.

During the investigation, I-95 South was closed in the area of exit 14 until about 6 p.m.

Police have not identified the deceased pedestrian has not yet been identified and are working to find out why she was crossing the highway on foot.
