Husband Stabbed Wife, Mother-In Law To Death In Philadelphia: Police

Leandro Barberena, 43, fatally stabbed his wife, Alma Barberena, 58, and her mother, Angela Trejo, 75, Philadelphia Police said.

PHILADELPHIA — The two women found stabbed to death in the basement of a Philadelphia home have been identified as a mother and daughter, and the daughter's husband has been charged with murder in connection with their deaths.

Police said the victims were Angela Trejo, 75, and Alma Barberena, 58.

The mother and daughter were found suffering from stab wounds in the basement of a home on Bingham Street in Philadelphia's Lawncrest section at about 1:33 p.m. Tuesday.

They were pronounced dead at the scene at 1:45 p.m.

Police Thursday said Alma Barberena's husband, Leandro Barberena, 43, is charged with murder, obstructing law enforcement, tampering with evidence, and more in connection with their deaths.

Barberena is being held without bail and is scheduled for a June 10 preliminary hearing, according to court documents.
