Academy Council Brings Joy to DuPont Children's Hospital Patients

Renaissance Academy student Academy Council brightens the days of sick children at Alfred I. DuPont Nemours Hospital.

Wilmington, DE --- Renaissance Academy Charter School (RA) Academy Council members rallied together, along with the student body and community members, to collect items for young patients currently staying at the Alfred I. DuPont Nemours Hospital located in Wilmington, Delaware. Throughout the month of March, the Council Members collected donations of markers, crayons, craft items, books, stickers, and games to give to the children. Over 20 bags were assembled and then delivered to DuPont.

This service project was the concept of 2nd Grade Academy Council Representative, Molly Travis, who came up with this idea to brighten days for the inpatient children at this award-winning medical facility. The campaign was near to Molly’s heart as her sister, Maeve spent time at DuPont last year after being diagnosed with a form of Leukemia. When asked to reflect upon this experience, Molly said, “It really meant a lot to me that the Council used my idea to help the hospital where my sister went.” Maeve Travis is currently doing very well, though she still visits DuPont periodically for treatment.

Lauren Rice, Elementary Academy Council Advisor, said, “Both the Lower School and Upper School Academy Councils were thrilled to take on this project to bring joy to those in need. We are so happy of the outcome and thank Molly for her leadership and hard work.”
