UPPER UWCHLAN, PA — Chester County K-9s did some pretty impressive work finding a missing 11-year-old boy earlier this week

The boy had run away from home near Gottier Drive on Monday evening, and state police and local law enforcement agencies were assisting in the search.

At around 5:15 p.m., Chester County Corporal Matthew Mendenhall and K-9 Nero arrived at a wooded area near Marsh Creek to begin the search in hot and humid conditions, authorities said.

They searched for half an hour before taking a break for some water and rest, and Deputy Sheriff William Rosenbaum and K-9 Cairo took over.

Cairo quickly picked up the boy's scent, and tracked it for more than quarter mile through the woods, according to police.

Rosenbaum later said that he knew Cairo was right because of footprints and trampled brush.

Around 15 minutes later, police, who were stationed nearby as Cairo tracked the boy, were able to find him safely as he exited the woods.

The Sheriff's Office praised the work by all officers involved, including "two-legged and four-legged" deputies.
