Bluesman Keb' Mo' returns with a great new record "Good to Be..."

Bluesman Keb’ Mo’ continues on his journey of connecting people, thoughts, and ideas through his music with this latest release, Good to Be…

Over the past 25+ years, this talented, award-winning singer, songwriter, guitarist, and contemporary blues artist, has cultivated a reputation as a modern master of American roots music through the understated excellence of his live and studio performances. He has collaborated with a host of artists, including Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Brown, Cassandra Wilson, Buddy Guy, Amy Grant, Solomon Burke, Little Milton, and many others.

This record was conceived, written, recorded with an assist from country music legend Vince Gill, who produced three of the album’s thirteen tracks along with help from Darius Rucker, Old Crow Medicine Show, and Kristen Chenoweth who all make guest appearances on the disc. Along with the title track, other stand-out tunes include the cheerful “Sunny and Warm,” a bluesy “Dressed Up in Blue,” “Good Strong Woman” (with Rucker), “Medicine Man” (with OCMS), and “Lean on Me” that Keb’ covers here to honor his friend Bill Withers who we lost last year.

The album was written between Nashville and his childhood home in Compton, which Keb’ recently purchased & renovated. During that time, he often found himself reflecting on the idea of home and contemplating what it means to belong and what it takes to stay true to yourself. In a recent conversation, Keb’ summed it all up by saying “…You can’t bring an attitude to Compton – You can’t pose… You can’t be anything but real when you’re walking down the same streets you used to ride your bike on as a kid… In lots of ways, coming back there felt like it completed me.”

Keb’ takes a worldview of what we’ve all been going through for the past two years, & distills that down to the basics of what is truly important for us all – Those would be family, friends, and home… It’s a message that needs to be expressed and one that should be embraced by each of us.

Thankfully, Keb’ is back out on the road again, after a year-long hiatus due to the pandemic, so we have a chance to hear these tunes (& his other great work) performed live for us – The tour doesn’t get too close to us this time around, but it will be coming to the McCarter Theatre in nearby Princeton, NJ on Monday, February 7th… A bit of a drive, but well worth the effort to see such an amazing performer play some incredible songs.
