Acupressure- shy of needles?
What is the difference between acupuncture and acupressure. How does the healing system work and when should you add it into your wellness portfolio?

Acupressure is an ancient method of healing which uses the same principles of acupuncture but instead of needles it uses finger tip pressures. So if you are shy of needles and wanted to use try the healing technique it is a great option. In this blog I discuss some basics so you can see if you want to try this ancient technique.
Thousands of years ago, the Chinese mapped the electrical body out into 12 circuits they call meridians. For the most part, each meridian is tied to a human organ such as the stomach, gall bladder or lungs. Along these circuits are points to clear the circuits when they get clogged.
During World War II when we were trying to develop healing methods for soldiers of war, modern science has tested these body points independent of the map and found when you send electrical charge through certain points on the body the charge travels 8-12 inches without being associated with any other known mechanism such as veins or lymph channels. They were able to produce a map of the body's energy system which when compared to the Chinese map it was the same.

Each point has different name and function in the Chinese map. There is a common Japanese message method called shiatsu designed to stimulate the same points. This is the way the energy body works so if you talk to other healers of other cultures you will often get a description of this system in one way or another with the points and the lines called something else. There are over 400 points.
When all the points are open and the energy is flowing through the meridians, the energy system is working. It feeds positive and negative ions into the chemical reactions which is happening everywhere in our body. When it isn't working, the chemical reactions are not working at their optimal and illness can occur by what is considered in the Chinese model as from an imbalance.

The majority of the time too many positive ions are collecting (which is called free radicals when inside the body). The healing art is to find the clogged spots and send some negative ions in to balance things out. The body can then do what it was naturally designed to do. The points can clog because of injury and trauma, but often it is because of negative energies from environment and people.
The needles are basically little antenna send out from the clogged point to collect negative ions from the air. The general energy system of the human body is positive except for the hands and head are known to be negative. So when a healer uses their finger tip, they are applying the negative ions in their hands to the point. One can also use tools and coins in the pressure process. Using pressure also works to unclog the spot using a bit of pressure to the body part, for needles there is a small prick so basically the client in both situations is put under minor stress so their body reacts to send help to the area.
The brain will identify a minor assault and send out its natural healing mechanism to see what type of repair is needed, if any. This also helps the current to flow. So internally you may feel a warmth occuring or even some tingling because the body has decided to send out its repair crew. These are all signs that the energy is flowing again.
Once the energy is flowing again and the body can return to its normal functioning with your nutrition and medicine working as designed. Yet the first twenty minutes to the first few days after the treatment you may become sicker or weaker as the body works to rebalance itself. So we suggest you do not plan anything major after a session and just let the body rest.
Also this is an energy system tool, so there are energy system things you shouldn't do after a treatment to optimize the results. This includes refraining from showering and swimming for 24 to 36 hours depending on your body's energy metabolism cycles.
The points are used in many alternative healing tools. The Chinese have used it instead of anesthesia during dental extractions and during birth. Bender Healing uses the points in tools like needless allergy elimination, natural facelift, emotional freedom techniques, reflexology and quantum nutrition. There are other healing tools which use the same meridian system and point including qi gong and shiatsu techniques.
There are programs to lose weight and stop smoking which you probably can find on the internet. You can self administer some of these programs in a form of acupressure.
For acupuncture with needles there is a potential of blood and infection so the state requires a license. Needles are not dug in deep, more of a surface prick when sewing. But I do find them to be painful for badly clogged points and for me I've had the pain carry for a day or two after a session.
Here in Phoenixville we have a great acupuncturist at Gateway Bodyworks. If you are ready to try the needle form definitely try one of their community events where multiple people are being worked on at the same time to get started, then when you feel you are ready for a full session you can schedule it. If you are shy about the needles, you can try acupressure at one of Bender Healings community walk-ins or schedule an appointment if you are ready for a full session.
Acupressure can benefit those on medication or with current illness ensuring the body is functioning at its peak, ready to absorb their doctor's treatments. I believe everyone could benefit from quarterly sessions. For those who want to take a preventative approach, especially if they deal with any toxic environment or toxic people it is an excellent idea to add to your wellness portfolio.
