Bring Your House Up To Par For Younger Buyers

Make your home appeal to the younger buyers.

You've cleaned your home top to bottom, de-cluttered and organized. Is that enough?

If you want to sell your home quickly and for the most profit it will be important to create some upgrades that will appeal to the younger buyers. The first thing that should go is paneling. It's considered out of date and definitely considered "old-fashioned" to the younger buyers.

Today's young buyers are drawn to earthy colors, open window treatments, hardwood and tile flooring and great lighting. Your home may have been comfortable for you, but remember you are now trying to sell it to the new owners. Here are some ideas:

  • Remove paneling or, at the very least, paint it trying to fill in the grooves while doing so;
  • Remove older, dark window treatments and replace with light sheers, blinds or leave the windows bear;
  • Remove pink, mauve, orange colors from your walls. Repaint with earth colors such as beige, mint or vanilla (not white). Accent a wall or two with coffee or red;
  • Remove old carpet and all carpet if you can and shine those hardwood floors that have not seen the light or add hardwood floors to the house;
  • Remove old medicine cabinets and replace with new lighting and a nice sized mirror;
  • Replace old flat doors with six-panel doors;
  • Remove metal awnings above doorways and windows. Let the light shine in!

These are just a few updates that can be made to make your home appealing to the younger generation.
