Citizen Opportunities on the Phoenixville Tree Advisory Commission

Phoenixville’s Tree Advisory Commission (TAC) currently has two openings that need to be filled by residents of the Borough who are willing to volunteer some of their time to public service. Both new Commissioners will be appointed to five year terms. The TAC is advisory in nature and has a mission of maintaining and preserving the Borough’s urban forest. Specific duties of the TAC include: maintaining the inventory of public and street trees, reviewing tree planting plans associated with development in Borough, and managing tree planting, pruning, and removal activities.

The TAC meets at Borough Hall on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 pm. Meetings typically last between one and two hours (shorter during the winter). The bulk of the time required is spent attending the meetings themselves except for the tree planting events which usually take place in the spring and fall. Most of the year (during leaf-on season) Commissioners also inspect trees between the monthly meetings (30 minutes or less). Finally, there are miscellaneous things that need to be addressed on occasion like reviewing ordinances or attending other Borough meetings.

We are looking for someone who is energetic and passionate about making the Borough a healthier and more beautiful place to live. Experience and/or education related to environmental science, urban planning, tree maintenance, or forestry is a plus but not a necessity.
