Is Buying a Home Still a Good Investment?

There are many different opinions regarding the question of whether or not purchasing a home is an investment. I suppose it depends on what "investment" means to you. 

A home is an investment. An investment in your family, yourself and your community. A home is the place where families grow, laugh and love. A  home is surrounded by your neighbors who become friends. A place that is all yours and you can make it what you wish. It's an extension of you, your life, your wants.

When my parents purchased a home way back when, the first thing on their mind was not what will this home be worth in five years. They were interested in becomming homeowners, a part of the community, creating a place for their children. They wanted to make that house their own with shades of blue throughout. The investment for them was not financial, it was emotional, it was family oriented.

I don't know when a Home became an instant gratifying financial investment, but there are investments that have nothing to do with financial gain. Of course you don't want to lose but history shows us that there are ups and downs in every situation in life, including the housing market. My grandfather is famous for telling us that the world is full of people wanting instant gratification instead of looking at the long term effects of decisions.

We are on the upswing of the market. It will take place slowly but the interest rates can rise quickly. It is the perfect time to make an investment in yourself. Purchase a home and make it yours! Paint it Pink, Purple or Blue. But make it your own little piece of happiness.

Is a home an investment? I suppose it depends on your definition.
