Meet the Candidates-Upper Providence Supervisor Election
The Upper Prov Supervisor election is only a few days away. Do you know who's running? Find out, get informed. Meet the candidates!
The Oaks Neighborhood Association is doing something unusual, something I've been told hasn't been done before in Township history.
On Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the Green Tree Church, 1078 Egypt Road at the intersection of Green Tree Road, between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., citizens will have an opportunity to ask questions of the two candidates for the open Supervisor's position.
George Faris (Democrat) and Lisa Mossie (Republican) have both confirmed and committed to attend. Citizens of Upper Providence Township are encouraged to participate.

The event will be moderated so questions directed to one candidate will be given to the other. An opportunity for each candidate to provide rebuttal to any question or statement will be provided. Fair and balanced is how it will be run.
I've been with the Oaks Neighborhood Association for a few years. It is a non-partisan group committed to good government, responsible development, safe streets, and maintaining the value of strong residential communities.

I got involved because I wasn't happy with local government and neighboring development. I didn't like the Township's approach to planning and I heard a lot of stories about coziness with developers. So I listened, asked questions, and started going to Township meetings. I still can't attend all the meetings but when it counts, I try to clear my calendar so I can have a say, at least to make the effort. And now that it's time to elect a new Supervisor, it's doubly important to be sure my choice is the best choice for the next six years.
In my opinion, party affiliation doesn't really mean anything at this level of government. Obviously it does to the local party committees and maybe to the county party committees. But the decisions Supervisors make affect the infrastructure around us and the value of our homes. Planning is or should be non-partisan. Local government decisions should be out in the open, not behind the scenes, not influenced by personal or financial relationships, nor should decisions affecting us all be made in executive sessions.
I strongly encourage everyone in Upper Providence Township to stop by Green Tree Church next Tuesday night. The way you can make a meaningful contribution during the election process is to make an informed vote. This is your opportunity to address each candidate and find out what their individual vision is for our Township and your neighborhood.
