My Second Mom

Instead of writing about my own mother, who is wonderful as well, I am choosing to write about my boyfriend's mother. She is the mother of 4 boys. A year and a half ago she lost her 24 year old son in a tragic car accident.  Since the accident, when most mothers would have fallen apart, she has done everything in her power to keep her family together and to keep her sons memory alive.  Not only does she continue to plan family events so that everyone can continue to feel a sense of normalcy in life, she also started a scholarship fund in her late sons name at the local high school.  The fund grew so much that instead of giving away one scholarship like last year, they are giving away two.  The amount of entries more than quadrupled.  Aside from fundraising to friends, family, and local businesses she also planned a beef and beer to raise money for the scholarship.  The event is expected to bring close to 200 people.  She has always made me feel like a part of the family even through the bad times and I cannot express how much I appreciate that, especially since my family lives hours away.  My favorite memories with her include our yearly camping and snowboarding trip.  She is my second mother and I think that she deserves to win!
