Perfect for Mom -Update the Tomato Garden
Tomato Plants For Mom -- a different and useful mother's day gift.
Does Mom (or Grandmom) plant the same tomato plants in the same place every year?
We should never, of course, tell our elders that they are wrong, but not rotating the location of a tomato patch has proven to be a major error for home gardeners and their neighbors. As a gift, we suggest that you do the work for your parents and 1.) either move the tomato patch or 2.) if the space is small remove all the old topsoil and replace with fresh compost/soil mixture.
You are are helping to prevent what many people call 'blight', and is airborn in tomatoes and potatoes. We suggest you buy Mom (or Grandma)a selection of tomato plants that are locally grown on premises (not shipped). Commercial plants from big box stores have been identified as a source of blight.

Plant, prop, and feed the tomato garden properly. Generally you should have high nutrition soil (and not feed plants), and with good aeration and a thin cover of mulch.
Consider heirloom tomatoes if you have the space--they are both delicious and colorful additions to the patch. (Disclosure--we grow 30 varieties of heirloom plants at Stimigo Farm)
