Rock Your Jeans and Cut The Gut

Only Results Fitness and Great Valley Adventure Boot Camp will be starting the next "Rock Your Jeans Challenge" on October 22nd.

Fall is here, which means jeans season is back. Have your favorite jeans been taunting you from the back of your closet for the past year or two? I’m not talking about style, I’m talking about the fact that you probably have skinny jeans and fat jeans. Just about everyone is familiar with the movie scenes where one of the characters lays down on the dressing room floor, using all their effort to button their jeans.

Most people who are concerned about being at a healthy weight rely too much on the number on the scale. Being healthy is not abou the number on the scale or BMI, it is about your body composition ratio. Basically these four factors are more important than the number on the scale: Lean Body Mass, Bone Density, Body Fat%, and Water%.

A simple analogy helps explain how BMI does not tell the story. In my day to day business I come in contact with people of all sizes and shapes. So a 38 male comes in and the scale reads 227lbs which puts him in the Obese category when it comes to BMI. However this male subject is an elite athlete with a Bodyfat % around 9%, Cholesterol below 155.  The next day a lean 27 yr old female comes in and based on the scale she falls in the Normal Weight category relative to BMI. Then I do all her other measurements and her bodyfat % is just below 35% with healthy range for a female being 22-27% and her Cholesterol is 245. So we want to teach you how to actually change your lifestyle to improve your health for the long term and just not for that next event. So, for this challenge, you will throw away the scale and only use your “clothes” as a gauge of your success.

Well it’s that time of year again! Everyone has a pair of jeans in the back of their closet that make them feel HOT when the jeans fit. These jeans can be used as an effective measure of your fat loss or in other words as your Thermometer Jeans. For the next “Rock Your Jeans Challenge” were asking you to get rid of the scale. It really comes down to how you look in the mirror and how you feel.  For most people, how your clothes fit isn’t really reflected that well on the scale.

Only Results Fitness and Great Valley Adventure Boot Camp will be starting the next “Rock Your Jeans Challenge” on October 22nd. The Challenge runs for 8 Weeks and will end just before the December Holiday season. “A study conducted by the NIH, suggests that Americans gain about a pound during the winter holiday season-but this extra weight accumulates through the years and may be a major contributor to obesity later in life.” So, lets buck the trend and keep moving through the holidays!

Here are some tips to help you get into your favorite skinny jeans:

1.   Focus on resistance training and short burst interval training.  When you have limited time – less than 6 to 7hrs/wk – for exercise, you only have time for the exercise with the highest return on time invested.  That is not jogging!  The good news is that you can see results in as little as 2 hours per week of what I call “smart exercise.”

2.   Clean up your carbs.  Get your carbs from veggies, and some fruit – especially berries.  Sugar and bread make people hungry, tired, and build a layer of fat – not a good combination for fat loss.

3.   Breath.  “Fascinating new research in the Journal of Biomedical Research suggests that for overweight women, just 3 minutes a day of deep belly breathing can knock 3 points of your body fat percentage in just one month.  The breathing alone seems to improve certain hormones that are important for regulating body fat levels.”

4.   Don’t drink your calories. I teach that, with few exceptions, there really aren’t any calorie containing or diet beverages that are good for you – most are just cleverly disguised sugar water and body harming chemicals, Recent studies have shown that even so called diet drinks will still make your brain say you are hungry due to the lack of nutrient density.

Jen invites you to attend one of the FREE “Rock Your Jeans” Fat Loss seminars and learn the little known keys to effective fat loss.
