Water Works Park

Due to the significant chance of rain showers predicted throughout the day on Monday, May 25th, we have cancelled our 2026 parade and Memorial Day events at Waterworks Park. The ground at the park is also soaked, which prohibits us from parking cars on the playing field and driving cars along the paths. 
We will, however, continue to hold our Remembrance Service for those who died in our wars. The ceremony will be moved indoors on Monday to Verge Church, 106 W. Ave. Trappe, and will start at 11 a.m.
We hope you will attend our Remembrance Service, and we look forward to seeing you next year at our parade, Community Day Concert, and Memorial Day events on May 31, 2027!

Books on Tap, Phoenixville Public Library’s traveling book discussion group for adults in their 20s and 30s, will meet on Tuesday, May 26, 7:00 PM at Great American Pub, 148 Bridge Street, Phoenixville. The group will discuss Olga Tokarczuk’s Nobel Prize-winning novel, Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead. 

In a remote Polish village, Janina devotes the dark winter days to studying astrology, translating the poetry of William Blake, and taking care of the summer homes of wealthy Warsaw residents. Her reputation as a crank and a recluse is amplified by her not-so-secret preference for the company of animals over humans. Then a neighbor, Big Foot, turns up dead. Soon other bodies are discovered, in increasingly strange circumstances. As suspicions mount, Janina inserts herself into the investigation, certain that she knows whodunit. If only anyone would pay her mind.

The Fourth Wednesday Readers, Phoenixville Public Library’s in-house book discussion group for adults of all ages, will meet at the Library on Wednesday, May 27 at 1:00 PM. The group will discuss Kristin Hannah’s bestselling novel, The Great Alone. 

Lenora Allbright is 13 when her father convinces her mother, Cora, to forgo their inauspicious existence in Seattle and move to Kaneq, AK. It's 1974, and the former Vietnam POW sees a better future away from the noise and nightmares that plague him. Having been left a homestead by a buddy who died in the war, Ernt is secure in his beliefs, but never was a family less prepared for the reality of Alaska, the long, cold winters and isolation. Locals want to help out, especially classmate Matthew Walker, who likes everything about Leni. Yet the harsh conditions bring out the worst in Ernt, whose paranoia takes over their lives and exacerbates what Leni sees as the toxic relationship between her parents. The Allbrights are as green as greenhorns can be, and even first love must endure unimaginable hardship and tragedy as the wilderness tries to claim more victims.

When we need more, how to help others at the same time“Giving freely of ourselves and what we all gain,” a talk by practitioner of Christian Science healing and international speaker, Melanie Wahlberg. The talk will focus on universal healing precepts found in the Holy Bible, especially in Christ Jesus’ life and teachings, showing how they are available for anyone to understand and experience through the lens of Christian Science. The talk is free, open to the community, and sponsored by First Church of Christ, Scientist, 81 Cassatt Avenue, Berwyn, PA 19312




“When we feel overwhelmed by life’s problems, we may want to try to get more from the world,” says Ms. Wahlberg. “But when we do the opposite–give more of ourselves or focus on the God-given qualities we already have to express or contribute, we find that we end up not lacking anything. Really, we gain the unexpected good of joy, health, and strength that move our lives and the world forward.”

Sharing examples of healing from her own life and professional practice of Christian Science, Ms. Wahlberg will explain why Christian Science is both Christian and scientific, meaning that people can prove its effectiveness for themselves, as fully described in the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, written by the founder of the Christian Science movement, Mary Baker Eddy.

Ms. Wahlberg will also touch on the life of Mary Baker Eddy, and how she came to understand, confirm, and teach what she felt was original Christian healing. Eddy herself said she was especially inspired by Jesus’ demand, “He that believes on me, the works that I do will he do also; and greater works than these will he do, because I go unto my Father” (found in the Gospel of John 14:12 in the Bible).

For over 150 years, people around the world have worked to follow Christ Jesus in this practice of Christianity and continue to do so today, with healings of physical ills and personal difficulties.
