Annual fundraiser expected to draw thousands to the area.

Mont Clare, PA – June 26, 2016 – Lock 60 and the Schuylkill Canal Park see approximately 25,000 visitors each year who come to fish, paddle, hike, picnic, jog, and more. The area is managed by the hard-working volunteers of the Schuylkill Canal Association (SCA) and on the last Sunday of every June, the non-profit organization holds its annual fundraiser, Canal Day, to raise money that goes toward its operating budget.

Between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, 2016, visitors to Lock 60 will be asked to donate a $5 admission fee (children 12 and under are FREE) to access the spectacular lineup of entertainment and events. There’s something for everyone on Canal Day! Attractions include a 5-mile trail run, kids fishing derby, canal joust, horseshoe tournament, kayak demo by Eastern Mountain Sports and French Creek Outfitters, Sly Fox beer garden, raffle, a 5-mile canoe/kayak race, storytelling, and so much more! There will be three lock openings during the day, and the Locktender’s house will also be open, so bring your questions! A courtesy shuttle will be available for those who need assistance getting around.

Businesses and organizations interested in becoming a sponsor, running an ad in the program, or donating an item to the brown bag raffle should email info@schuylkillcanal.com.

The SCA is always looking for new volunteers, so if you would like to be a part of this popular annual event, send an email to info@schuylkillcanal.com or attend one of our planning meetings, which are announced on our Facebook page.
