Chester County HS Teacher's Aide Had Sexual Contact With Students: DA

A teacher's aide at a Chester County high school engaged in sexual contact with two of her students, the DA alleges.

A West Chester woman and teacher's aide has been arrested for allegedly having sexual contact with students at the school where she works, according to the Chester County District Attorney's Office.

Authorities said that 42-year-old Sheri Maufort had sexual relations with two male students while working as an aide at Unionville High School.

"I have said it before and I will say it again," DA Tom Hogan said. "Rule number one for school staff is: do not have sexual contact with a student. If you break this rule you will be fired, sent to jail, and never work again."

The sexual incidents occurred off-campus and outside of regular school hours, the DA said. Maufort met the students when she was a substitute teacher in one of their classes.

Maufort texted the first victim, who was under the age of 18, in August. She had him meet her outside of his home, authorities said. Maufort then drove him outside of the neighborhood, gave him alcohol, parked at a restaurant in Birmingham Township, and then took him out into the middle of a field, according a criminal complaint. Once there, she kissed him and performed oral sex on him, the DA said.

They returned to the restaurant where they met Maufort's husband, who later drove the boy home. Maufort told the boy to call her when he was 18.

In September, Maufort ran into the second victim, who was 18 but still a student at Unionville, at a party in the area. They got into a car where she kissed him and touched him inappropriately, the DA said.

Police were notified of the incidents on November 11 and Maufort was arrested on November 16. She has been charged with institutional sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor, endangering the welfare of children, and the corruption of minors.

A preliminary hearing is pending.
