Coming to the Colonial Theatre THIS WEEK - Steve Earle & the Dukes

I think singer-songwriter Steve Earle enjoys coming around Phoenixville.

That is evidenced by the several time he has traveled through our area with his Dukes while on tour. This coming Sunday, June 5th, he & the Dukes will once again grace the stage at our Colonial Theatre a third time for what promises to be another unforgettable performance.

This time around, he will be performing tunes from his latest release Jerry Jeff, A wonderful 10-song tribute to the cowboy troubadour Jerry Jeff Walker – Another one of the all-time greats that we lost back in October of 2020.

Probably best remembered for his tune “Mr. Bojangles,” this collection includes that iconic song, but also several other lesser-known gems that can hold their own against that classic. There’s a freewheeling version of “Getting’ By” that kicks off the record, a tremendous take on “Hill Country Rain,” and (my personal favorite from the album) a poignant, plaintive version of “My Old Man” – He crushes that song & crushes me each time I give it a listen.

This latest effort “…completes the set, the work of my first-hand teachers…” Steve writes in the liner notes, referencing 2009’s Townes & 2019’s Guy, which he made after the deaths of Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark.

Expect the show at the Colonial to include several tracks from this latest record, along with some additional classics from Steve’s own songwriting career (like “Guitar Town,” “Copperhead Road,” and “Someday”).

Seems like Steve & the Dukes dig that venue; like the town; & love the people who live around the place. That’s three solid reasons not to miss this show!
