PMYC: Eagles Win Championship
PMYC Super Sunday lived up to the title with two great games.
The Eagles have won the championship on Super Sunday.
People in the area have waited to hear that for years and following another fourth-quarter meltdown by the NFL team that wears the moniker of our national bird, the Phoenixville Marian Youth Club (PMYC) Eagles Big Brothers championship will likely be the only one that area residents will be celebrating this year.
Even though coach Jason Harsh, who happens to be a Dallas Cowboys fan, and his squad were heavily favored as they battled the Vikings on Super Sunday, the 14-12 win did not come easy as Chris Sullivan sealed the win with an interception at the Birds' 20-yard line with less than 30 seconds to play.

After taking a 6-0 lead on their opening drive, which covered 65 yards culminating with a 1-yard run from Ezekial Vinson, the Vikings defense gave the Eagles all they could handle, as they forced a turnover on downs in each of the Birds' first two possessions, the second in their own red zone on a fourth-and-four from the Vikings' 8-yard line.
The Eagles' offense, led by Jayden Smith (9 carries, 54 yards), Tyler Hunter (7 carries, 38 yards), and quarterback Ian Brown (5 carries, 12 yards, TD) posted three long drives but it wasn’t until Garrett Serwatka (5-20 yards) blocked a punt setting the Eagles' offense up on the Vikings' 15-yard line with less than three minutes left in the first half that the Eagles finally got on the board.

Brown called his own number from the one-yard line for the touchdown and following a PAT pass to Chris Sullivan, who boosted the Birds' lead in the third quarter hauling in a 9-yard touchdown strike from Brown, the Eagles took a 7-6 lead into the intermission.
Vikings head coach Lou Brignola and his purple people eaters have had two weeks to get ready for the big game and it showed, as the Vikings drove the ball into Eagles' territory on three occasions in the second half.
Following Vinson, who did an outstanding job leading the attack all day, going down with an injury, Shyheim Abernathy stepped in and led the Vikings to score as he dove in from one yard out to cut the lead to 14-12 with 30.7 seconds left.
Even though the two-point kick was blocked by the Eagles, 12–year old Kenny Erb executed a perfect on-side kick that was recovered on a bounce by Abernathy, giving the Vikings another chance to steal the win, but Sullivan’s pick off with 23 seconds left sealed the win for the Eagles.
“This was the best game I have seen on Super Sunday in a long time,” said league secretary and master of ceremonies Dave Gyuris. “Both teams gave 100 percent out there and they should be proud of their efforts on both sides. It’s a shame one team had to lose.”
