This fascinating lecture retraces the steps of 19th century archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann, who used the text of Greek epic poet Homer to discover and excavate Mycenae, the city made famous in the Late Bronze Age by Agamemnon in the war against Troy.  Vast quantities of gold, including a gold death mask believed to be from the great king’s tomb, were excavated there.
