Internationally recognized autism advocate Laura Shumaker will speak at Camphill Special School’s Beaver Farm on April 24 on the topic of “Launching Teens and Young Adults with Autism.”
Laura describes herself like this:
“I’m the mother of THREE terrific sons. The oldest, Matthew, is a young adult with autism. I’m an optimistic mother/autism advocate/writer, and parents like me because I tell them it gets easier and I mean it. I understand the importance of helping disabled youth and their families with the transition to adulthood.”

Laura not only is the author of the book A Regular Guy: Growing Up With Autism, she also writes a popular autism blog for the San Francisco Chronicle. Her essays have appeared in the New York Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, Literary Mama, NPR, and CNN.com.
Laura will appear at Camphill Special School’s Beaver Farm campus located at 551 West Seven Stars Road, Phoenixville on April 24, 2012 at 7 p.m. There is no charge to attend.

Camphill Special School, founded in 1963, is a cutting edge educational community serving children with moderate to profound developmental disabilities in kindergarten through twelfth grade. The school also offers a Transition Program for young people ages eighteen to twenty-one at Beaver Farm.
