PHOENIXVILLE, PA — A young Phoenixville mother and her son faced eviction. That's when Orion Communities and the Phoenixville Police Department stepped in.
Orion, a Phoenixville area nonprofit that provides case management and supportive services to at-need individuals in the region, was able to work with their community partners to help the mother keep her home.
"It was complicated but we have fabulous partners and collectively we were able to help her keep her home so she could turn her focus to finding a new job," Orion said, in relaying the story on their Facebook page.

But there was something else. The young mom's son had just received a stellar report card. She wanted some way to reward him for his hard work. She reluctantly asked Orion if they knew of a way she could get movie passes for him.
While Orion didn't have movie passes, they did share the story of the little family at a meeting of community partners, which was attended by Phoenixville police.

Lt. Brian Marshall stepped in and bought tickets for the mother and child, with enough leftover money to buy popcorn.
"Can you imagine what it means to a teenager to avoid moving into a shelter and know that the local police wanted to congratulate him for his good grades in the same week? This community is something special - many thanks to Lt. Brian Marshall and all of our generous heroes!" Orion wrote.
Well done, Orion and Phoenixville Police.
