Thoroughly enjoying the new release from the band The Immediate Family – a sort-of supergroup of world-renowned session players…
If you’ve been listening to any music at all for the past fifty years or so, you know these guys – Guitarists Danny Kortchmar & Waddy Wachtel, drummer Russ Kunkel, and bassist Leland Sklar have joined forces with guitarist Steve Postell to form a very special combo called The Immediate Family. They have all had illustrious individual career backing artists like James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Stevie Nicks, Don Henley, Billy Joel, Carole King, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Keith Richards, Michael McDonald, and many, many others, both in-studio & out on the road over the years. All told, these guys have played on over 2,600 releases - Amazing!
The Immediate Family could be called the 21st Century iteration of The Wrecking Crew – that legendary group of session players – famous in their own right back in the 1950s and 1960s featuring the likes of Hal Blaine, Tommy Tedesco, Larry Knechtel, Carol Kaye, Steve Douglas, and Earl Palmer – who backed the artists of that day such as Frank Sinatra, the Beach Boys, the Mamas & the Papas, and Phil Spector. It was also the starting point for future stars like Glen Campbell and Leon Russell…

Well, if those guys were known as “the Wrecking Crew,” I’m gonna dub these guys “the Rockin’ Crew!”
Recorded over three days at Jackson Browne’s studio in Los Angeles, this record kicks off with a blast of electric guitars on the lead track “Can’t Stop the Progress.” That firey three-guitar interplay continues throughout the rest of the album on songs like “Fair Warning,” “Time to Come Clean,” and “Turn it up to Ten.” The band’s love for the roots of rock ‘n roll surfaces in the funky, bluesy tones of “Slippin’ and Slidin’,” “Divorced,” and “Damage.” The record wraps with two live covers of the Browne/Kortchmar cowrite of “Somebody’s Baby,” and a wonderful take of Warren Zevon’s “Johnny Strikes Up the Band.” Simply wonderful to hear!

And now, the “Family” is coming to our area to perform! They will be at the Ardmore Music Hall THIS Sunday, November 21st, at 7 pm to rock the house like it may not have ever been rocked to date! Definitely something to add to your 'to-do' list as we begin our Thanksgiving week – You will NOT be disappointed that you did!
