Kickoff to Fire Prevention Week During October First Friday in Phoenixville
Meet your Phoenixville Firefighters, walk through the Fire Safety Smoke House to learn safety tips and tour your Phoenixville fire trucks.

The Phoenixville Fire Department is hosting an annual Kickoff to Fire Prevention Week. This Event will be held during the October “First Friday” in Downtown Phoenixville. The Fire Department will occupy the closed section of Main Street between Bridge and Church Streets as well as the adjacent municipal parking lot from 6 to 10 PM on October 2nd.
In conjunction with the National Fire Protection Association, the theme of this year’s Fire Prevention Week is “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep. Every Bedroom Needs a Working Smoke Alarm.” In support of this mission the Phoenixville Fire Department will continue to promote our Smoke Alarm Giveaway program. The Department offers to visit residents of Phoenixville Borough to test and install new batteries in existing smoke alarms. If smoke alarms are missing or outdated, the Department will install a new smoke alarm in the apartment or each level of a house. Residents may sign-up for the program during the October First Friday or by calling the Department’s Administrative phone number (610) 933-9717. We will also have a special LEGOLAND Firefighter poster for children to hang up in their room, so they can remind parents to test smoke alarms each month.
We anticipate Sparky the Fire Dog and Smokey Bear will visit this event to meet and greet children and parents alike. Your children should also meet our “Friendly Firefighter,” a firefighter fully outfitted in protective gear including breathing air from their air tank. Children will be able to experience how a Firefighter will look and sound when entering a house during a fire - so that children will recognize the firefighter and go to them rather than run and hide.
The Northern Chester County Fire Chiefs Association’s Fire Safety Smoke House will be in town for families to tour and learn fire safety tips. The Smoke House has a kitchen and bedroom with various simulated fire dangers and fake smoke.
The night will also offer you the opportunity to meet your local Firefighters, look at the equipment we use, sit inside your Phoenixville fire trucks and plenty of photo opportunities for your family.
After this Kickoff on First Friday, the Department will spend the following two weeks visiting schools and early learning centers in Phoenixville. Firefighters will teach age-specific family and fire safety topics to students.
We welcome families from any Community to come visit us Friday, October 2nd on Main Street in Phoenixville!
