New music - Jesse Terry - Forget-Me-Nots - Volumes 1 & 2

Spring seems to be the perfect time to talk about Forget-Me-Nots, the latest release for the phenomenal singer-songwriter Jesse Terry.

The release is basically a compilation of 5 eps Terry initially released online back in 2021 put onto two discs and is comprised of 22 of his favorite tunes that were written by others. Some of them were requests he received from viewers watching his weekly on-line pandemic shows. Others were songs that his parents introduced to him, or that he sang with his high school and college bands. The most important requirement in choosing these songs was that they needed to be tunes that he would never tire of singing.

These songs span the decades, but the standout tracks on this collection include Jesse’s take of classics like Joni Mitchell’s “A Case of You,” John Hartford’s “Gentle on My Mind,” Dylan’s “My Back Pages,” Clapton’s “Let it Grow,” and Tom Petty’s “Walls.” All of them time-tested beauties, but all transformed into Terry’s unique style of delivery – Quite satisfying…

As one could imagine, the recording process here was very non-traditional. Vocals and acoustic guitar were recorded at an Air BNB in Prosperity, South Carolina (which the Terry’s booked to escape the New England winter), under the direction of longtime producer Neilson Hubbard who has also worked with Mary Gauthier & Glen Phillips. The rest of the album was recorded in Nashville where Jesse was able to use Zoom from his home in Connecticut to take part.

This would be the second album Terry recorded during the pandemic, along with his holiday record Peace, which was reviewed back in this space last December, both of which were executive produced by longtime fans/friends, Rick and Marianne Chester.
