Animals… They’ve been helping us become human for thousands of years.
Bring your ideas for combining animals and clay to this winter afternoon special class. Your goal is to make animated pots and lively animal sculpture. We will use photographs, fables, and our own experience with animals and clay. Using the wheel or hand-building, squirrels can be teapots, turtles are a natural for boxes, and owls can be anything they want. Find out how right here.
Learn specific techniques for building sculptural animal forms, including:
- ball and socket joints
- mortise and tenon construction
- ceramic sculpture for structural integrity
Students will have their choice of working with sculptural forms or with the theme of animals in pottery —surfaces and pottery forms. Discover how artists have explored the relationship of humans and animals in the history of ceramics.
