'Nigerian Scam' Hits Chester County: Police
A "Nigerian scam" is circulating in the Chester County area, targeting those interested in dating websites and online relationships.

TREDYFFRIN, PA -- A "Nigerian scam" is circulating the surrounding area, targeting people interested in relationships via social media sites and dating websites, the Tredyffrin Township police said.
The suspects, claiming to be from Nigeria, typically begin dialogue with potential victims to develop a personal relationship, according to police.
When they’ve established a “relationship”, they’ll ask the victim for money to aid in travel expenses because they want to visit or medical expenses such as necessary surgery they can’t afford, police said.

Once the victim realizes the scam, they are often out thousands of dollars, police warn.
Anyone who is asked for money from someone they have never met should be highly cautious.
