Outdoor Concert Line-Up for our area - Part One
A look at the outdoor shows that will be happening in our area during the month of May
Summertime is quickly approaching & so is the time that we can start to enjoy some great, outdoor performances! We are extremely fortunate in this area to have a BUNCH of choices all summer long, so part one of this posting will just deal with the ones that are currently scheduled to take place in May - Here you go:
We start out the weekend of May 5th & 6th with the 'Sing Us Home Festival,' which will be held nearby at Manayunk’s Venice Island & will feature nationally-touring acts including Drive-By Truckers, Dave Hause & the Mermaid, Kathleen Edwards, The Hold Steady’s Craig Finn and Lydia Loveless alongside local acts Tim Hause, Catbite, Crossed Keys, The Tisburys, Circles of Syn and Ocean Ave Stompers. Many of the acts, including Hause himself, have performed at festivals and events hosted by Philadelphia’s WXPN, who will welcome the 2-day concert. More info, including ticket options, can be found at singushomefestival.com.
Another local, not-so-well-kept secret concert event happens just down the road from us in Malvern on Wednesdays once a month. The series is called 'Friends of Summerstage' and first up for them this season will be Winslow - An Eagles Tribute Band on May 17th starting at 6:30 pm at Valley Creek Park (361 Morehall Road in Malvern). This family-friendly event is FREE to one & all! Summerstage should have some food trucks & beverage options on-site for you to enjoy, but you can also bring your own food & drinks along with a picnic blanket or lawn chair while you sit back, relax, mark the middle of the work-week, and enjoy the music of Glenn Frey, Don Henley & the rest.

Concerts Under the Stars returns to Upper Merion Township Building Park in nearby King of Prussia for its 37th season this summer & is another great option to consider - This year's line-up is pretty great & starts with Langhorne Slim performing on May 19th and the VERY fun Boat House Row (a Yacht Rock music experience) playing those hits we all love on May 26th. Not to get ahead of ourselves, but the one & only Joan Osborne is on the docket for June 4th! Complete details and more info for the entire summer schedule can be found at concertsunderthestarskop.com.
And if all of that was not enough to fill out your dance card, the long-running Bryn Mawr Twilight Concerts are back at the Bryn Mawr Gazebo from May to September, and like Sing Us Home, will be welcomed by WXPN. The largely folk-focused lineup will include performances by Steve Forbert, Stephen Kellogg, Livingston Taylor and Dar Williams, as well as artists with local ties like Liz Longley, Carsie Blanton and Jeffrey Gaines. The family-friendly concerts will also feature children’s shows by Trout Fishing in America and Terrance Simien. First up is a FREE show with Matt Santry + the Lift Offs to appropriately kick things off on May 27th. Tickets for the other shows and more info can be found on brynmawrtwilightconcerts.com.
