A Philly Special Christmas Special - Some new holiday music to enjoy!

Members of the Philadelphia Eagles team up with several local icons & musicians for their second installment of holiday music classics

(Album cover art (Hannah Westerman))

Just in time for the season!

Jason Kelce, Lane Johnson and Jordan Mailata of the Philadelphia Eagles have released their second installment of holiday tunes for the masses of die-hard Eagles fans... & THIS year, they've enlisted even MORE assistance from some of their teammates along with several local, iconic Philly musicians...

Once again, the project is a charity fundraiser by the guys and the beneficiaries this year are Children's Crisis Treatment Center Toy Drive and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Snowflake Station.

The album hits all the right notes - From superb song selection and vocals from this tremendous trio of linemen, spectacular performances from some of Philly's best local musicians, and super assists from the likes of Philly's own Patti LaBelle, Amos Lee & Waxahatchee.

Stand-out songs include the joyous "This Christmas" with Mailata & LaBelle, the ominous "Santa's Night" where Kelce gives his very best Tom Waits impression, Lane Johnson's sweet version of the Willie Nelson classic "Pretty Paper", "Christmas Time is Here" with a performance by the Philly Special Children's Choir that would make any fan of those Charlie Brown Christmas specials proud, and "The Dreidel Song" which features the vocal stylings of none other that Howie Roseman! There's even a nod to South Philly with "Dominick the Donkey" making the scene... My personal favorite here is "Fairytale of Philadelphia" - a cover of the Pogues classic where Jason Kelce enlists the help of his brother Travis to help with the vocal duties (Sorry Swifties; No sighting of Taylor here... Maybe next time!). Philly stalwarts Rob Hyman & Eric Bazilian from The Hooters provide some of the music on this track made all the more poignant with the passing of Pouges frontman Shane McGowen at the end of November this year.

Other musicians of note on the record include drummer Charlie Hall, vocalist Eliza Hardy Jones & keyboard wizard Robbie Bennett from the War on Drugs, pianist Zach Miller from Dr. Dog, rapper/comedian Lil Dicky, guitarists DMHotep of the Sun Ra Arkestra & Kevin Hanson of Huffamoose, bassist Thomas Hughes from the Music Tapes, plus jazz drummer Justin Faulkner all lend a hand. Hall also produced the album & brought along his Silver Ages Choir to join in the fun. Legendary Philly session players like pedal steel genius Mike 'Slo-Mo' Brenner, Anthony Tidd, Luke Carlos O'Reilly, Nick Krill, some banjo by Brennan Ernst, & a horn section featuring the incomparable Jay Davidson, Matt Cappy, Nasir Dickerson, and Dan Blacksberg are there as well.

Eagle teammates like Jalen Hurts, Jordan Davis, Brandon Graham, Nakobe Dean & more also make an appearance - And the whole thing was executive produced by former Eagle Connor Barwin - A true 'team effort' in every sense of the term!
