Phoenixville Borough Council Considers Firebird Festival
Residents may have to wait a few more weeks for a final decision.
The Phoenixville Borough Council met on Tuesday night to discuss the future of the Firebird Festival, the annual ceremonial burning of a 24-foot Firebird.
Officials indicated that they would need at least two more weeks to discuss the issue and vote on whether or not to approve the festival.
The final location for the festival is also being discussed. It may not be held at Friendship Field, officials suggested.

The Jaycees, Cub Scouts, and other local organizations showed up to the council meeting and supported the festival.
“I still believe the festival will happen because of the overwhelming community support it has gathered, and also because the Firebird Festival is a feel good event that represents the very spirit of our community,” said Phoenixville resident. Richard Devaney.

The giant bonfire has sent the 24-foot Firebird named Sylvia up in flames for eight years in a row in December in celebration of the mythical Phoenix and the rebirth of Phoenixville.
Around 5000 or 6000 people came to the 2014 event on 300 Bridge Street, fire officials said.
