Phoenixville Council Approves Communication Board In Reeves Park

The board will help non-verbal students participate in activities and express their needs in the park.

PHOENIXVILLE, PA – Phoenixville Borough Council Tuesday night approved a request to install a communication board to help non-verbal students interact at Reeves Park, 401 Main St.

The park is a community bandshell area for events. It has an abilities playground, exercise equipment, a small field, gazebos, memorials, and more.

Mackenzie Frees, a speech-language pathologist, asked the council for permission to place a communication board in Reeves Park to help non-verbal students communicate.

“A lot of students whom I work with use this method to communicate,” she said.

The communication board displays actions to help with navigation and communication of their needs and interests.

The board also contains sign language signs,” she said. “It can be used as a teaching tool.”

Frees said she is donating the sign from her practice.

Council approved the request to put up a board.

The sign also has Spanish translations.

Council members expressed appreciation to Frees for the donation to the park.
