Phoenixville Field Hockey Coach Resigns
John Tornetta ends his 17-year tenure as manager with the winningest record in team history.

The sideline at the Phoenixville Area High School field hockey pitch will look a bit different next season. The Phantoms’ Head Coach John Tornetta has resigned after 17 years at the helm, taking with him the team’s winningest record of 194 victories.
During Tornetta’s tenure, the Phantoms won the Pioneer Athletic Conference championship in 1998, competed in the district playoffs all 17 years, advancing to the Final Four each year except in 2006, and made three PIAA state playoff appearances. Tornetta also served as representative for all District One field hockey teams.
“I’ve had the privilege to work with many student/athletes in the Phoenixville Area. Each one brings many memories that will stay with me forever,” said Tornetta in a statement. “I would like to thank all the people along the way who supported me and my coaches. When you work in such a great community that provides so many positive experiences for our youth, having to coach them at the high school level was my pleasure and a part of my life I will never forget.”
Tornetta began his field hockey coaching career in 1989, serving nine seasons as an assistant coach before taking the reins.
