Phoenixville Firebird Festival is Saturday: What to Know

PHOENIXVILLE, PA -- The borough's iconic event is just days away. Phoenixville's Firebird Festival will take place at Friendship Field on Saturday, December 3, from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The giant bonfire has sent the 24-foot Firebird named Sylvia up in flames for several years in a row in December in celebration of the mythical Phoenix and the ”rebirth” of Phoenixville. Several thousand people attend the event annually. 2016 will mark the 13th year of the festival.

Weather is expected to cooperate with the event. According to the latest reports from the National Weather Service, Saturday will be mostly sunny and clear with a high of 46 and a low of 34. Rain is expected to move out of the area by late Wednesday.

Activities will begin at the field at 3 p.m. The lighting will occur at 8:15 p.m.

The 200 block of Bridge Street will be shut down for the festival from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Street performers, music, food, and entertainment will line the street. A procession will depart Bridge Street for Friendship Field at 7:30 p.m.

Shuttle buses will run from downtown to Friendship Field from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Schuylkill River Towns is hosting a hike through several area trails which will conclude at the festival. The three-hour, seven mile hike will include Lock 60, Black Rock Sanctuary, and the Schuylkill Valley Animal Preserve. For more information, see the event page here.

An afterparty will be held at The Polish Club on 328 High Street, organized by LuLu Boutique. Tickets are $10.
