Phoenixville Police: 'Dozens' Of Phone Scam Reports Locally
And it's not the only scam plaguing the area.

PHOENIXVILLE, PA -- Phoenixville police are warning residents that phone scams are hitting the area at an alarming rate.
Dozens of calls have been reported in the last 48 hours, police said.
The caller claims to be with the IRS or the Treasury Department, demanding payment on a past due balance, and threatening arrest if payment is not received.

However, other local police departments report, that is not the only scam that has hit the area recently.
A second type of scam circulating is a pop-up on your computer screen stating “Tech Support is needed,” and lists a phone number.

When calling the number, the “tech support” agent says that a virus is on the computer and a software package is needed to clear it. There is a fee for the program. These are scams as well, police said.
If you are unsure, contact your computer manufacturer or bring it to a reputable company that will diagnose issues.
