Phoenixville School Board Approves Use of Eminent Domain to Acquire Land
The district needs to purchase easements in order to move forward with its elementary school construction plan.

A 7-1-1 vote at last week’s Phoenixville School Board meeting approved the use of eminent domain to purchase easements necessary to continue the district’s New Early Learning Center and Elementary School, the Pottstown Mercury reports.
If the move is successful, the district will obtain stormwater and construction easements from Levin Management on the corner of Route 29 and Pothouse Road, according to the Pottstown Mercury. It will be the final piece of property needed for the project, which has been recently estimated to cost a maximum of $80,911,301, with a maximum building cost of $47,270761.
Rising capacities at the existing elementary schools prompted the district to come up with the plan to construct a combined early learning center and elementary school on the site of the former Meadow Brook Golf Club. The new building will allow for the closure of the kindergarten center on School Lane and East Pikeland Elementary on Hares Hill Road.
