Police Urge Residents Not to Fall Victim to Scams
East Pikeland Police are urging residents to be aware of scam attempts.

According to East Pikeland Police, the following scams recently have been reported:
- A man called a resident and stated that he was the brother of a big-time drug dealer and that her brother had struck his car and caused about $400 in damage. She was told that her brother had an injury and was being held at gun-point until she wired $400 for the car repair. She was told that he would be released after she sent the money.
- Additionally, people have received calls from someone claiming to be from the IRS. The caller tells the resident that they owe a large sum of money, but that the IRS is willing to settle for a lesser amount, as long as it is sent immediately in the form of prepaid cards.
“Please do not become a victim of these scams or any other scams,” East Pikeland Police said. “You should always ask them for their phone number, along with their name and supervisor’s name. Remember, there are a lot of people out there trying to take your hard-earned money from you.
“Never give out your personal information over the phone. If it doesn’t sound right, it most likely isn’t right. We are here to help, so if you have a question about a suspicious phone call, please do not hesitate to contact us.”
