Renaissance Academy Celebrates National School Choice Week

Parents attend and participate in k- 6 graders' classes to celebrate school choice.

Phoenixville, PA --- Held every January, National School Choice Week (NSCW) shines a positive spotlight on effective education options for every child. To celebrate this event, Renaissance Academy opened its doors and invited parents and grandparents of learners in grades K-6 to take part in their students’ classes.

Over 135 parents came throughout the week to take Math, English Language Arts, Spanish, Science, Social Studies, and many of the Fine Arts classes available during their students’ daily schedules. Many parents also joined their children for lunch in the RA cafeteria.

Macie Gidney, 3rd grade student, said that she really enjoyed having her dad come in and help her work on a document during her technologies class. “It would be really fun to have my dad at school with me every day.”

Patrick Abendschein who took science with his 5th grader, Seth, said that he enjoyed his time in class. “I am always impressed with Seth’s science teacher, Mrs. Barcus. When I was a student, I do not believe I’ve ever had a teacher who was quite as engaging as her, academically.”

The goal of NSCW is to raise public awareness of all types of education options for children. These options include traditional public schools, public charter schools, magnet schools, online learning, private schools, and homeschooling. To meet this goal, NSCW encourages schools to hold positive events that celebrate school choice options.
