One hundred years after the World War I sinking of the Lusitania, historian Roger Arthur discusses Germany’s justification for the attack, the loss of American lives and America’s response to the sinking. In the process, he describes accepted maritime traditions and practices involving shipwrecks and survivors, and addresses the legal, ethical and moral implications of warfare on civilians in a war zone.

Roger Arthur teaches history at Bishop Shanahan High School in Downingtown, PA. He has also taught adult enrichment courses for the Chester County Night School and the Civil War Institute at Manor College. He lectures on a variety of historical topics at local libraries, colleges and community groups.
