The 112-mile guided kayak trek down the length of the Schuylkill River will begin this weekend.

The Schuylkill River Sojourn, a 112-mile guided kayak trek down the length of the Schuylkill River, will begin this weekend.
Participants row roughly 14 to 18 miles a day, from June 3 through June 9, and learn about the cultural and natural history of the river and its surrounding environs along the way. The event is organized by the Schuylkill River Heritage Center.
The trip begins at Schuylkill Haven and ends at Boathouse Row in Philadelphia.

It's likely residents along the river will catch a glimpse of the sojourn as it progresses: there are dozens of kayaks and canoes participating, and they are often bunched very closely together.
In 2016 the Sojourn was honored with a national Public Outreach Project Award from the American Society for Environmental History
