Schuylkill Twp. Gets $1 Million Grant For New Sidewalks
The $1 million in funding will help Schuylkill Township significantly expand pedestrian access, specifically on Valley Forge Road.
SCHUYLKILL TOWNSHIP, PA — Schuylkill Township has received a major state grant to significantly improve pedestrian access in the area.
The township will get $1 million in funding to build a sidewalk along Valley Forge Road, between White Horse Road and Valley Road in Phoenixville.
The sidewalks will provide a crucial link between SEPTA bus stops. All told, roughly 2,200 linear feet of sidewalks and ADA ramps will be installed, along with drainage improvements.

“I’m thankful that Schuylkill was selected to receive this million-dollar grant, especially because it will benefit everybody in our community,” State Rep. Melissa Shusterman said in a statement announcing the funding. "These funds will increase pedestrian safety, as well as decrease mobility issues for Chester County residents living with a disability by providing easier access to public transportation."
The money comes from the Multimodal Transportation Fund.

“This is very exciting news for Schuylkill Township as this grant will help provide much needed safety and connectivity improvements for our residents and neighboring communities,” Schuylkill Township Manager E.J. Mentry said in a statement.
The project has been in the planning phase for years now, and this funding will allow it to come to fruition.
