SONGS opens Facetime's new season, new space
Facetime Theatre will present Jason Robert Brown's "Songs for a New World" April 15-23 as part of its grand opening.
"Songs" is not your typical musical. The composer said it's about one moment -- about hitting the wall and having to make a choice, or take a stand, or turn around and go back. Facetime's cast, which consists of two men and two women playing characters aptly named Man 1, Man 2, Woman 1 and Woman 2, can feel the power in Brown's songs.
"No matter who you are or where you come from we all have these pivotal moments in life -- unexpected moments that take you down a road you never thought you'd travel," says Brandon Lee of Malvern, who plays Man 1. In this show, "each song is a new character and by exploring each of their stories you gain a deeper appreciation for the show."
Steve Carrasco, a Stowe resident who plays Man 2, agrees. "I think this show is about making it through those moments and coming out on the other side with a different outlook," Carrasco says. "I'm looking forward to sharing this great music with people who are fans already and people who may just be discovering it."

Director Katie Romano of Conshohocken says of the score, "each of the songs has touched my life in one way or another and I am so excited to bring the show to life on stage." Romano is looking forward to "making the audience feel. That's what it's all about."
In addition to Lee and Carrasco, the talented cast of "Songs" includes Margot Adams and Nina Harper. Music direction is by Laura Burhans.
