This last year has been one of the best years of our lives. We have tried our best to set ourselves up for a very successful future (which is still in the works). Yet our journey to this point has not been anything that we have expected, not bad by any means, just unexpected.
The travels: oh the travels. The countless hours in the car from showing to appointment to showing. Getting lost, laughing ourselves silly, driving into the depths of.. not so good areas. Everyday is an adventure, and I wouldnt have it any other way (Luckily there are 2 of us)
The people: This may be the best part of the job. We have come across some amazing people. People that have taught us life lessons, the reigns to success, or simply helped us with a daily task. Others who have driven us absolutely crazy but in the end, apologize, we also have those that just skip town. We run into the occasional person that wont pick up a phone, or who wont email, giving us just one more obstacle to get around. But really, it is these characters that get us through the day and put money into our pockets, so we will keep them all!
The paper: This was the biggest unexpected part of real estate. There are hours upon hours of paperwork involved with buying a house and most do not realize the "behind the scenes". "We dont need a realtor, we can sell the house for sale by owner" Little did you know.. This job involves cutting down a tree to pass the transaction through to the settlement table. Oh and dont forget, if you make one wrong check mark, you could royally mess up a transaction - have to check and re-check and when you think you have checked enough - have your partner check your work.
The houses: I lied - this is the best part of the job (sorry clients). Because we come from design backgrounds, walking into every single home is like a new canvas. The artwork you could hang, the walls you would rip down, the ideas you gather every single day - makes you want to own 50 houses - each with a different architecture and style. Then there are houses you go into and want to get out of immediately so that the stench doesnt stick to you or the bugs dont eat you alive or most importantly, you dont fall through the "floor" Lastly, there are the houses that you absolutely fall in love with from floor to ceiling, it is perfect and you would move right in. Ah the dream! You tell yourself "you'll be there, just have to sell another house"
Anyone that knows us, or has met us in the last year can tell that we love what we do. We love to see the smile on clients faces when we tell them they got their dream house or they have a buyer. We love the good, even the bad and especially the unexpected. It brings us into work every single day SO stay tuned. We will be bringing you into our daily lives with pictures, videos, and more!
