Strawberry Fields Juice and Smoothie Bar: Cold Juice for Hot Times in an Old Town
As the warm weather continues, all you need is juice.
As the hottest July on record morphs into a still-steamy August, there have been way too many days when not only do you not want to cook on a hot stove, you don’t want someone else to have had to, either.
Strawberry Fields has an enormous juicer, several powerful blenders, lots of refrigeration units and no stove anywhere in sight. Food, for the most part, is served cool and raw, which revives heat-parched appetites. While smoothies are already made with ice, for summertime, they will add ice to any of the freshly-made juices.
Throwing off the August heat, Irene and I went for lunch at Strawberry Fields. As always, Rob (his partner Susan wasn’t in that day, but she is just as friendly), greeted us and asked if we had any questions about the selections. Like most patrons, we stared at the chalkboard of Juice/Smoothie/RX Smoothie choices for some time and mulled over what mix we felt like that day.

Irene chose the large Detox Juice ($8.95) containing carrot, cucumber, beet, lemon, apple, ginger and flax oil with a supplement of wheat grass. I chose a large I Feel Fine–Immune Booster ($6.95) with milk, yogurt, banana, blueberry, strawberry, flax oil and green vibrance powder. Both were cold and refreshing for a humid day.
Soups are offered in hot weather and wraps year-round, but fresh salads are where Strawberry Fields really shines. Irene chose the Green Goddess Salad ($7.25), which is raw pecan halves, chevre (goat cheese), hemp seeds, dried cranberries and carrots over a bed of baby spinach leaves with balsamic dressing.

“This is good enough to lick the plate!” Irene declared.
I chose the Quinoa-Black Bean Salad ($7.50), a mix of cold quinoa and black beans over a bed of assorted lettuces and baby spinach accented with carrot and cucumber with a smoky lime dressing. It was hearty enough to fill me up and cool enough on a hot day to keep me eating.
We split a Strawberry Vegan Oat Bar ($2.95), made on the premises and now available in Raspberry and Gluten-Free. If you like oats and fruit filling, you—like many Strawberry Fields patrons—will adore the Vegan Oat Bars which have become one of the most popular menu offerings.
One of the strengths of Strawberry Fields is that it provides varied menu offerings for those on a limited diet that are tasty enough for anyone to enjoy. It can be difficult to find a restaurant where Vegetarians, Vegans, Gluten-Free, Raw, Kosher and/or “I eat anything” folks can enjoy a meal together, but Strawberry Fields pulls it off. Wraps come in Whole Wheat or Gluten-Free. Egg Salad is Regular or Vegan. There are no meat items on the menu, so those who keep Kosher can enjoy the restaurant with their non-Kosher friends.
Owners Rob and Susan are very accommodating, so if you have unique-to-you food issues, they are happy to create a juice or other menu item that will take your food issues into account and keep your taste buds happy.
Service is upbeat, friendly and as mentioned before, very accommodating to special orders/needs. However, as everything is made to order and there are usually no more than two people filling those orders, you should bring your smartphone or something to read while waiting for your juice.
We’ve got six more weeks until fall. As summer blisters on, visit Strawberry Fields for cool and refreshing foods that revive not only your taste buds, but your spirits.
