Tuition Going Up At Pa. State System Schools

Tuition at the 14 universities that make up the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education will be going up.

The tuition hike will be about 3 percent, the Board of Governors said. For a typical in-state student, tuition, fees and room and board will be about $18,500 for the 2014-15 school year.

The board governing the universities approved the tuition increase at a meeting Tuesday.

"The 2014-15 state budget passed by the Legislature last week and awaiting Gov. Tom Corbett’s signature includes about $412.7 million for the State System, the same amount it has received each year since 2011-12, and about $90 million less than the System received in combined state and federal funds in 2010-11," the Board of Governors said in a statement.

The 14 schools in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education are Bloomsburg, California, Cheyney, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock and West Chester.

Ninety percent of the students at the 14 schools are from Pennsylvania.
