University of Valley Forge President Retires

President Don Meyer and his wife, Evie, announce retirement from the University of Valley Forge effective July 1, 2016.

After leading the university for more than 19 years, Dr. Don Meyer, president of the University of Valley Forge (UVF), and his wife Evie, who serves as the executive director of enrollment management, have announced their retirement effective July 1, 2016.

Meyer became UVF's 10th president in 1997. Over his nearly two decades of leadership, the university has gone through a significant metamorphosis. Meyer oversaw many campus improvements that transformed the former Valley Forge General Hospital site to a bustling college campus. Academically, opportunities increased from seven undergraduate programs to over 50, and eight master’s degree programs were initiated. Enrollment increased from 476 students in the fall of 1997 to 952 students in the fall of 2015 under Meyer's leadership. Of major note, accreditation was granted by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, the highest accreditation possible for a university, while Meyer served as president. In addition, in 2014 University status was achieved.

Meyer is an ordained Assemblies of God minister, and a gifted speaker and writer. He has spoken at camps, retreats, seminars and churches nationally and internationally. For over 14 years, he has written a weekly column called “Think About It” for The Phoenix Reporter & Item. Last year, Meyer also published his first book on leadership, “The Distinguishing Mark of Leadership.” Within the community, while under Meyer’s tenure, Community Service Day started in 2002. This is a day when, each year, the students, staff, faculty and administration go out into the streets and parks of Phoenixville to clean up debris and help beautify the community. Due to his leadership in the community, The Phoenixville Chamber of Commerce honored Meyer as its outstanding citizen of the year in 2015.
