What is the Feast of the Seven Fishes?

Traditional religious? or secular... Italian? or Italian American...Seven fishes? or thirteen....Christmas eve? or any evening the week before Christmas.... The feast of Seven Fishes has many interpretations, all of them involving a sumptuous meal with many traditional fish dishes. The origins are from Catholics who abstained from meat or dairy on Christmas eve, but as in many traditions 'The Vigil' has become secular, usually offering a seven course meal -- all fish or seafood-- among family and friends to celebrate the holiday week.
