10 Fun February Events Around Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, PA - February isn’t just about Valentine’s Day and sitting lethargically on the sofa waiting for spring to arrive. Though the elements may warrant staying in some nights, there are plenty of performances, trade shows and other entertaining activities around town that should compel you to go out.

Here are 10 Patch picks for February:

• Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Jan. 31, Feb. 1-3, Benedum Center, Downtown

Roald Dahl's enticing tale is the perfect recipe for a delectable treat: songs from the original film, including "Pure Imagination," "The Candy Man," and "I've Got a Golden Ticket," alongside a toe-tapping and ear-tickling new score from the songwriters of “Hairspray.” Get ready for Oompa-Loompas and the great glass elevator.

• Abba Mania, Feb. 7, Palace Theater, Greensburg

This tribute takes you back in time by recreating one of the world’s finest pop groups in a live stage performance. This production was created in 1999 and played its first shows in 2000.

• Monster Truck Jam, Feb. 8-10, PPG Paints Arena

Enjoy a family-friendly experience starring the biggest performers on four wheels: Monster Jam Trucks, Monster Jam Speedsters and Monster Jam ATVs. These 12-feet-tall, 10,000 pound machines will bring you to your feet, racing and ripping up a custom-designed track full of obstacles to soar over or smash through.

• Spirit of 76 Donnie Iris and the Cruisers, Feb. 9, Palace Theater, Greensburg

After a series of sold-out shows at the Palace last year to mark his 75th birthday, the legendary Pittsburgh artist of “Ah Leah!” and “Love is Like a Rock” fame returns to the stage to begin celebrating his 76th. The Jaggerz and Wild Cherry veteran is known for always putting on a strong performance.

• Pittsburgh International Auto Show, Feb. 15-18, David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

Auto enthusiasts can check out a wide variety of new, classic and exotic vehicles in a non-selling environment. The auto show is famous for showcasing the latest exotic cars from McLaren, Ferrari and Lamborghini. Auto manufactures will be displaying the latest in safety features that will keep tabs on drivers distracted by other digital gadgets. You can take a seat in a sporty convertible, calculate the cargo space of a new SUV and admire the rugged off-road features of a heavy duty pick-up truck and more.

• Dave & Buster’s Grand Opening, Feb. 18, The Block Northway, Ross

The much anticipated debut of the second Pittsburgh location for this bar-restaurant-video arcade finally occurs. Who wouldn’t want to be there on opening day?

• Michael Buble, Feb. 22, PPG Paints Arena.

Buble is touring in support of his most recent album, "love," which was released in November. Expect to hear songs from that offering, as well as Buble standards such as " I Haven't Met You Yet," "Home," "Everything," and "It's a Beautiful Day."

• Blake Shelton Feb. 23, PPG Paints Arena

Shelton’s Friends and Heroes Tour also features the Bellamy Brothers, John Anderson and Trace Adkins and very special guest Lauren Alaina. The tour kicks off Feb. 14 in Oklahoma City and spans 18 dates across the country.

• Pittsburgh Beerfest, Feb. 22-23, David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Downtown.

More than 125 breweries and beer enthusiasts from across the region will gather for unlimited samplings of fresh craft beers of all styles and tastes. Even better, part of the proceeds from the event will go to Animal Rescue Partners, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting numerous animal rescues.

• Disney on Ice: Mickey’s Search Party, Feb. 28 through March 3, PPG Paints Arena.

End the month with Mickey Mouse and friends in this new adventure filled with world-class skating, high-flying acrobatics and unexpected stunts. The search party follows Captain Hook’s treasure map and looks for clues in the search for Tinker Bell in immersive, fantastic worlds. Your kids undoubtedly will be mesmerized.
