The bacteria identified in the testing can result in serious and potentially deadly infections. According to the FDA, they primarily are used on newborns, infants and young children susceptible to infection because they have underdevloped immune systems.
Healthy people who use the product containing bacteria most likely would experience minor lesions. But immuno-compromised individuals, newborns, infants and young children, the infection is more likely to spread into the bloodstream, potentially leading to life-threatening sepsis or pneumonia.
