10s Of Thousands Still Without Power In Pittsburgh Area; More Storms On Way
As ongoing efforts to restore power to customers who lost service in Pittsburgh on Friday, another high wind and severe storm threat looms.
PITTSBURGH, PA — Prepare for a lot of loose objects flying through the air today and Monday as another strong storm system approaches the region.
According to the National Weather Service, winds could be as high as 40 mph in the Pittsburgh area today and tomorrow. Wind advisories for higher gusts have been issued for counties east and north of the city.
The weather service also advises that severe storms are possible in the area on Monday morning and early afternoon.

The forecast comes as nearly 30,000 Duquesne Light customers remained without power on Sunday morning after ferocious winds struck Western Pennsylvania on Friday.
Initially, about 160,000 Duquesne Light customers lost power.

According to Duquense Light, hundreds of mutual assistance crews from around the country and Canada have joined efforts to restore everyone's service.
The weather service said a 66 mph wind gust was recorded at Pittsburgh International Airport. It's officially the 4th strongest wind gust on record that wasn't caused by a thunderstorm.
For comparison, the top gust ever was 83 mph (July 10, 1992) from a thunderstorm.
